Completed parkade mural expands downtown art scene

KAMLOOPS — Over 80,000 tiles later, downtown drivers and pedestrians now have a full view of the completed mural on the Lansdowne Parkade.

The mosaic, Community Confluence, comes from the mind of local artist Bill Frymire.

Put together by hand, Frymire says the piece took around two months for his team to finish.

“While we were working on it, a day didn’t go by when we didn’t have someone shout, ‘Good job,’ or, ‘It looks great,’ or, ‘Fantastic,'” he says. “All the feedback that we’ve got has been really, really positive. It’s a talking point for sure for people around this area.”

Located in the heart of the downtown core, Frymire encourages the community to come out and get an in-person look at the unique art piece.

“It’s one of biggest mosaics, obviously the biggest one that I’ve done, but one of the biggest ones that I’ve seen,” Frymire says, “I think someone looked it up in Guinness Book of World Records, and the biggest one is like, 100 square metres bigger or something like that.”

An ‘easter egg’ of a small, hidden detail can be found within the mosaic, and the only clue Frymire has is, ‘You are here.’
