KAMLOOPS — The leader of the federal Conservatives made a stop in Kamloops today (July 2).

Hundreds of Conservative Party members and supporters waited with anticipation to hear from Scheer.

The opposition leader was confident as he spoke of his party’s chances in the upcoming election.

“I’ve got good news for everyone,” Scheer told the crowd, “a couple weeks ago the House of Commons sat for the last time with Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister.”

With four months to go before voters head to the polls, Scheer is taking aim at the Liberal government and the promises made in the past election.

“He looked Canadians in the eye and … made a firm solid vow to bring us back to balanced budgets this year,” he told reporters. “He broke that promise. He broke the promise to do politics differently. We saw what he did to Jody Wilson-Raybould and those who blew the whistle on his interference with the SNC-Lavalin scandal.”

Scheer believes many Canadians were disappointed with the Trudeau government.

He’s confident incumbent MP Cathy McLeod will fair well in the October election.

“I believe she’s going to hold the seat,” Scheer said. “She’s got a stellar track record of putting her constituents first.”

Met with only a small, peaceful protest, the Conservative leader outlined his priorities for the country, and for the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding.

“Obviously in ridings like this, small businesses are the backbone of the economy, and there is the attack on small businesses launched by this Liberal government has caused a lot of hardship,” Scheer said. “In British Columbia, obviously, the forestry sector is a big issue and there’s been some very negative news recently.”

Scheer says his party is providing a series of policies that resonate with voters who have grown tired of the current government.
