Don Hay returning to Portland Winterhawks for a second season

KAMLOOPS — Don Hay is returning to the Portland Winterhawks for a second season as an assistant coach.

It will be Hay’s 27th season coaching in the Western League. The three time-Memorial Cup champion — two with the Blazers and one with the Vancouver Giants — holds the league record for most wins as a head coach with 750.

Hay joined the Winterhawks just before training camp last season, after parting with the Blazers.

The Winterhawks have also signed associate coach Kyle Gustafson to a contract extension.

The Blazers courted Gustafson for their head coaching job before he decided to stay with the Winterhawks.
