VERNON, B.C. — RCMP say it’s a great example of why people should report suspicious activity to the police.

A concerned citizen alerted an officer to man passed out in the driver’s seat of a car in the 3900 block of 27th Street in Vernon around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday.

“The officer attended the location and immediately recognized the male who was wanted on outstanding warrants. The officer then attempted to effect an arrest and a struggle ensued, which yielded a multi-unit police response,” Const. Kelly Brett, media relations officer for the Vernon RCMP, said.

The suspect was arrested after a short foot chase.

“During the investigation, officers located and seized multiple items including cash, drugs, prohibited weapons and drug paraphilia. All of which are indicative of drug trafficking,” Brett added.

A 26-year-old man is in custody facing possible drug trafficking and weapons charges.

“With the help of the alert citizen that called in to the Vernon RCMP we were able to make an arrest and take drugs and weapons off the streets,” Brett said.
