KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: FortisBC spokesperson Diana Sorace says the gas line was struck early this morning and crews do have the gas under control.

She says repairs will be complete at roughly 11:00 a.m. today.

“Again this is a good reminder to the public that the majority of damages on our system are preventable,” Sorace says. “Always call or click before you dig to B.C. One Call, if you do have a ticket we want customers and those calling BC One Call to follow the information you receive very closely, and if you have any questions about it just to call us for clarification.”

Sorace says excavation was being done in the area, and the gas main was hit by an excavator.

EARLIER: Police and fire crews are on scene in Westsyde this morning after a gas line on Grasslands Boulevard was damaged.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police are assisting in blocking off part of the road.

Kamloops Fire Rescue crews are evacuating some homes as a precaution.

This is the third damaged gas line in the city in as many days.

More to come.
