BIG BAR, B.C. — A significant rock slide in the Fraser River could impact the passage of returning salmon.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says it’s aware of the slide near Big Bar, and is responding due to the salmon concerns.

DFO says it conducted an overflight to survey the site, and is sending a crew of engineers and habitat specialists into the area today to determine the extent of the blockage.

The department will work with the province and local First Nations on next steps.
