KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue is reminding people to ensure they have working smoke alarms in their home.

The message comes after a small house fire on Tuesday afternoon in Pineview Valley.

KFR received a call about the house fire around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday on Snowberry Crescent. The fire started on the outside of the house. It caused extensive damage to the vinyl siding.

“We responded with two engines, a rescue, and an aero unit. When we arrived on scene, the homeowner had put the fire out, mostly with his garden hose,” said captain Shawn Davidson.

Firefighters remained on scene for an hour to ensure there were no hotspots. KFR says this is a reminder for homeowners to check their smoke alarms.
