Ashcroft Mounties investigating assault on 4-year-old

ASHCROFT — An assault on a 4-year-old boy at a soccer tournament in Ashcroft this weekend is being investigated by RCMP. The child was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP say the child was assaulted by several other children. When someone realized what was happening, and yelled at the children to stop, the youngsters scattered.
The assault occurred at Ashcroft’s HUB Park Saturday, but wasn’t reported until Sunday. Sgt. Kathleen Fitzgerald said, “We strongly believe there may be witnesses who live outside the town of Ashcroft.” She added, “There may be people who came into town on Saturday but not on Sunday and are unaware that we are looking to speak to them.”
