KAMLOOPS — A fire south of the Cinnamon Ridge composting site drew a large response from local firefighters. A fire south of the Cinnamon Ridge composting site drew a large response from local firefighters.

The fire was called in to Kamloops Fire Rescue around 11:15 this morning. At the time it was reported to be the size of ‘two football fields’ and grew to approximately two hectares.

Assistant Chief Dan Sutherland says many agencies came together to work to extinguish the fire.

“(KFR) had 24 personnel on scene there. We also had BC Ambulance standing by for safety reasons, as well as BC Wildfire crews and danger fallers were also in attendance from BCWS to give us a hand knocking down some danger trees,” said Sutherland.

Fire crews from the airport also lent a hand in fighting the blaze.

It took approximately two hours for crews to get the fire under control.

Sutherland says Kamloops Fire Rescue has not yet determined the cause of that fire.
