KAMLOOPS — Lisa and Paul Trickett have treasured their time in Kamloops.

Six years of service and it’s been their best posting yet.

“I grew up in the Salvation Army. My mom and dad are Salvation Army officers. In all fairness and in all honesty, I’ve never seen a community so generous,” said Paul. “I’ve never been in a place where we do not pay anybody to stand at our kettles. We don’t pay one salary for people to stand at our kettles. It’s all volunteer.”

The heart of the community is what the couple will remember most about working here.

“The love of the people,” said Lisa. “I’m going to remember the time they gave us, the money they gave us, the volunteer hours at the kettles and all-year around.”

One of their highlights was the work they and the organization did during the 2017 wildfires.

“I’ll remember the help the community came and surrounded us,” Lisa said. “They just stepped up when we needed volunteers for the emergency when we were at the forefront of the feeding program of over 5,000 people per day. It was amazing.”

On a personal level, moving to Kamloops helped grow their family as well.

“We adopted our two daughters while we were here from Salmon Arm,” said Paul. “I’ll always remember Kamloops for that.”

The nature of serving as an officer for the Salvation Army is change. They’re moving to Penticton to be closer to Paul’s aging parents who live in Kelowna.

But it’s a bittersweet move for the Tricketts, who have loved working here.

“The only good thing for us is we’re only 2.5 hours away,” Paul noted. “So the friends that we’ve made here, we’ll definitely be able to stay in contact with.”
