B.C Wildfire Service makes short work of minor flare up in Beresford Lakes area

KAMLOOPS — BC Wildfire Service crews quickly gained control over a small blaze in the Beresford Lakes area yesterday.

Fire Information Officer Nicole Bonnett says the 1 hectare fire was reported yesterday afternoon, and 6 firefighters responded.

“They were out on site all yesterday afternoon and into the evening,” She explains, “They’ve changed the status of the fire as of last night to being held. So it’s not expected to grow beyond the current perimetre.”

The fire is near a BC Hydro line, so Bonnett says Hydro will be going out today to make sure the area is safe for B.C Wildfire Service crews to go in.

“So there is the potential for that fire perimetre size to change a little bit, but that’s not reflective of the status of the fire, just of the additional area being made safe for the crews to go into.”

Other than that, Bonnett says the fire situation within the Kamloops Fire Centre is looking fairly stable.

“We have a few active fires right now that we’re responding to. We had another one yesterday evening that was just a vehicle fire crews responded to to make sure it didn’t spread to the grass. That was down in the Princeton area along Highway 3A,” She says, “But other than that, it’s just waiting to see if any more of those lightning fires have held over, and will pop up again as things dry out and warm up.”
