TNRD hosting public open house to determine location for new Eco-Depot

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Nicola Regional District is looking for community feedback on possible locations for a new Eco-Depot.

The TNRD is hosting public open houses in Cache Creek and Ashcroft next week.

These will provide residents with opportunities to weigh in on where the Eco-Depot would get the most use and cause the fewest issues.

This after a proposed site south of Ashcroft, next to Hwy 1, was opposed by area residents.

“Local area residents wanted us to do more consultation, the board agreed, so now we’re coming back to the communities and proposing three potential locations that are easily serviced as well as easily accessible for both communities that could be potential eco-depot locations,” said TNRD Waste Reduction Coordinator Andrew Roebbelen.

The potential locations include the existing transfer station site at Campbell Hill Drive West as well as the Old Chip Reload Plant at Campbell Hill Drive East. A third option is at Boston Flats.

“We want to know how often people are coming,” Roebbelen said. “So, we really just want to get a sense of how the communities of Area I, Ashcroft, and Cache Creek will be using that site and where best suits them.”

The open houses will take place at the Ashcroft Hub at 1:30 p.m. next Wednesday (June 19) and 5:30 on Thursday (June 20), and at the Cache Creek Community Hall at 5:30 p.m next Wednesday and 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
