Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of the Southern Interior, including Kamloops.

The watch applies to the North Thompson, South Thompson and the Shuswap.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” Environment Canada says in the statement. “Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and move east to southeast. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe with the main threats of heavy downpours and large hail.”

Very strong wind gusts are possible especially across open areas like large lakes.
