KAMLOOPS — More than 1,000 parents and children enjoyed a couple of hours in Riverside Park this morning during the 15th annual Teddy Bear Mother Goose Picnic.

The event is a wrap-up celebration to the Kamloops Early Years Parent-Child Mother Goose programs.

This year’s theme is Once Upon a Time, with a goal of expanding young imaginations. Community partners set up booths for entertaining and engaging the kids.

“It’s just a really great way to showcase what our community has for early years, and to really just come down and play,” said Maureen Doll, family services director with the Kamloops YMCA-YWCA.

“Just play, play, play. It’s a fundamental basis, it’s a foundation of childhood, so we encourage families to come down, bring their friends, bring their parents, come enjoy a picnic and just really have a good time.”

The sun was shining on the morning’s free event, which resulted in more than double the attendance of last year’s rainy event.

“This year, we definitely were able to spread out a little bit more, the water park is open and the City of Kamloops has come by and been just absolutely amazing helping with anything they can,” Doll said. “So, it’s, I think, bringing more people, but in the end kids don’t care as long as you have them dressed appropriately they’re going to come down and have a good time anyways.”
