Bridges going on Westsyde Wall of Fame

KAMLOOPS — He’s in the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame and tonight Bob Bridges will be going onto the Westsyde Secondary Wall of Fame.

Bridges came to Kamloops from his native Arizona in the early 1970’s to play baseball — a pitcher with the Kamloops Okonots at the old Riverside Park Baseball Stadium, where the bandshell now stands.

He would become a Canadian citizen and later pitched for Canada’s national team.

In 1973 Bridges began his teaching and coaching career at Westsyde Secondary — a career that lasted at Westsyde for over 30 years until he retired in 2004.

He coached and had success in both football and girls basketball.

Bob Bridges will be the 7th individual on the Westsyde Wall of Fame —- which includes several others with a sports background, including Dylan Armstrong, soccer coach Eric Schweitzer, and Dr. Nadine Caron, who was a player on several of Bridges basketball teams in the 1980’s.
