Boil Water Advisory

Logan Lake residents annoyed with boil water advisory

KAMLOOPS — Logan Lake residents have been boiling their drinking water since the beginning of the month.

The District put out a boil water advisory on June 1, when Interior Health flagged high bacteria levels in the water.

The source of the bacteria has not yet been determined, but the District is hoping chlorine will be successful in disinfecting the lines.

Residents and business owners, like Doug Wilson, are eager to have the water returned to normal.

Wilson owns The Country Cafe, a popular spot for locals and visitors.

“We’ll boil four or five pots of water every night just to keep up, and throughout the day we’re just constantly boiling water,” he said.

Wilson says business has remained steady through the water advisory.

“We still have old-school stuff, so we’re pouring water into our coffee machine, our ice machine, our water dispenser, where a lot of the other facilities go direct,” Wilson said.

“So, we’re surviving, but it’s more of an inconvenience than anything.”

Logan Lake Chief Administrative Officer Randy Lambright says the boil water advisory was put in place as a precautionary measure and the bacteria is not e. coli.

“We’re pretty confident that it’s not the groundwater source, that it’s actually in the delivery system, so somewhere in the piping system,” Lambright said. “That could come just as the result of dust or dirt, it could come as a result of increased pressure in the line that just shakes something up.”

Lambright believes this was caused by construction projects happening around the community.

The water is being tested on a regular basis. Results of the latest rounds of testing are expected Thursday.

Meantime, residents are becoming impatient.

“We’re tired of it, really,” said one man. “In my entire life, living all across Canada, I’ve never had to boil water.”

Logan Lake residents have been growing more frustrated over the past 10 days, but they are hopeful the boil water advisory will be over by the end of the week.
