WILLIAMS LAKE — Williams Lake RCMP have called in the North District Major Crime Unit to help investigate a homicide from last night (June 8).

In a release today, RCMP says just after 6 p.m Saturday evening, officers from Williams Lake and Alexis Creek were called to the Toosey Reserve to help BC Emergency Health Services with a severely injured woman.

When first responders arrived on scene, they found a 33-year-old woman with fatal injuries. Despite treatment, the woman could not be revived, and died on scene.

In the release, RCMP say “the nature of, or the mechanism of the victim’s injuries will not be disclosed at this time.”

A local man was arrested at the scene for murder, and remains in custody. No charges have been laid.

The Williams Lake General Investigation Section, and the North District Major Crime Unit, with assistance from Frontline officers, are now in the evidence gathering stage, and have identified two potential scenes.

One being on the reserve, and another at Lovers Leap. Both areas are closed off while forensic examinations are being conducted.

Staff Sgt. Todd Wiebe of the Major Crime Unit states, “We understand this reserve is a close knit community and there is bound to be information being shared amongst the members and community of Williams Lake at large. If you have information about this tragic incident and have not already spoken to investigators, we ask to contact either the Williams Lake RCMP or MCU and an investigator will arrange to speak with you.”

“While the investigation is still in its infancy, our investigators believe that is an isolated incident and the community is not at risk”, states Inspector Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge Williams Lake RCMP. “We are working with and will continue to support the ND MCU as we move toward the court process.”
