Savona-area fire ‘being held’ as cooler weather helps firefighters

SAVONA, B.C. — B.C. Wildfire Service crews have made strong progress on the Sabiston Creek wildfire west of Savona.

“It is being held at this time, and after some more accurate mapping, it is now sized at 202.5 hectares. That’s still estimated, but a bit more accurate,” said Fire Information Officer Taylor MacDonald.

While the fire is relatively quiet, MacDonald says 20 firefighters are still working on site today.

“We still have crews on site today, but we are experiencing some cooler weather today and we are expecting some showers as well, so hopefully that will help our crews out there.”
