KAMLOOPS — A big month of May has Kamloops ahead of its record-setting 2018 pace for construction.

New numbers released Monday by the City of Kamloops show $33.3 million in building permits issued last month. That brings the year-to-date total to $97.6 million in construction activity.

After five months last year, Kamloops saw $94.9 million in permit activity.

This year’s May totals were bolstered by permits taken out for 94 housing units, including 19 single family homes and 64 multi-family units.

Kamloops builders took out more than a quarter-billion dollars in permits in 2018. City officials expect 2019 to best that, especially considering activity ramping up on the $400-million Patient Care Tower at Royal Inland Hospital.
