SD73 urging safe celebrations during graduation season

KAMLOOPS — As graduates make their way out of Kamloops high schools, School District 73 is urging students to be smart when they celebrate, so they can enjoy the next chapter of life.

About 1,000 graduates will receive diplomas in the Kamloops-Thompson area this year.

Given the danger around fentanyl contamination, S.D. 73 Assistant Superintendent of Secondary, Bill Hamblett says the district hopes grads avoid using drugs for any festivities.

“With all the excitement, and all the celebration, it’s just a reminder for students to make good, safe choices. And not to consume any substances that would tar the celebration, or that leads to some harmful, unintended consequences.”

District Honours graduation takes place tonight (May 30), and over the course of June, 14 different commencement ceremonies will be held throughout the Kamloops area.
