Week of hazy heat expected for Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Hot and smoky conditions are set to dominate Kamloops and the Interior this week, but that combination won’t last.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says a hot, dry ridge blowing in from the north means Kamloops will smolder all this week.

“We’re expecting temperatures into the low 30s, which is close to eight degrees above average,” he explains. “So really warm for this time of year, and continuing sunny and dry. So the fire weather forecasters are for sure interested in that.”

No record high temperatures are expected, and Lundquist says the smoky haze blanketing the area from the Alberta wildfires is likely to clear up over the next few days.

“It’s because that ridge of high pressure built in from the north and brought that smoky air down with it,” Lundquist says. “It’s not as bad of course, as further north. We’re hoping over the next few days, the flow will come a little more off the Pacific, and when it does that, will push that air back into Alberta.”

Long range forecasts predict cooler weather for next week, however Lundquist says with no rain included in that prediction, dry conditions will likely continue.
