More downtime in interior forests

KAMLOOPS — Interfor is the latest lumber company to announce downtime due to market conditions.

The Vancouver-based company will reduce production at its three mills in the BC Interior for the entire month of June due to weak lumber prices and high log costs. The three Interfor mills in the Interior are at Adams Lake, Grand Forks and Castlegar.

Tolko is also currently taking down time at its Armstrong mill for two weeks.

The curtailment at Interfor is expected to reduce production in the region by approximately 20 million board feet for the month and will be taken by way of reduced operating days at each of the three BC Interior mills.

Interfor capacity in the Interior amounts to a yearly total of 750 million board feet.
