KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops RCMP officer was injured Sunday when his police cruiser was rammed by a man in a stolen vehicle.

According to a news release from RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was reported stolen on Friday (May 24).

On Sunday at about 1:00 p.m., police received a report that the Jeep was driving erratically in the 1800-block of Westsyde Road.

Responding officers found the Jeep parked at a home, with a man and woman walking to and from the Jeep.

As officers tried to arrest the man, he jumped into the Jeep. In the process of trying to escape, he hit and injured the woman, then drove into the front of a parked police cruiser.

The officer inside the cruiser received minor injuries and the man sped off. RCMP decided against pursuing.

A short time later, police found the Jeep on Mount Paul Way and the suspect was arrested.

Crown will determine if and what charges are appropriate.

The 27-year-old suspect was previously known to police.

Shelkie says the woman who was with the suspect was not arrested.
