Minimal Todd Road remodel delays have City gearing up for next major road project

KAMLOOPS — While much of the City’s focus is on re-construction of West Victoria Street, Barnhartvale residents must contend with improvements to Todd Road.

Now a week into the first part of reconstructing a section of Todd Road, City of Kamloops contractors, BA Dawson Blacktop, haven’t run into any problems just yet.

Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell says the $4 million rehabilitation project will see improvements on the road from Klahanie Drive to Ronde Lane, and so far the community feedback has been positive.

“The primary reason we’re in there, other than just reconstruction of utilities, we’re adding a pedestrian sidewalk on the high side,” he says. “We’ve had good feedback at the open house. It will now connect to the school, so hopefully that helps with concerns of pedestrians and kids going to school and whatnot.”

Crundwell says construction is slated to be finished by October 2019.

After that, the city will begin overhauling another major roadway.

“We have Tranquille (Road). So it’s a complete replacement, well twinning and then abandoning the existing sewer main. And that sewer main services the whole North Shore,” Crundwell explains. “That’s from 12th Street to Ridgeview, so it is a huge project as well — about the same dollar figure as West Victoria Street.”

Crundwell adds, the City knows it’ll be a long construction season, so they appreciate the patience of residents while roadwork is being done.
