Four arrested after Kamloops RCMP expand bait program to include bicycles, packages

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say four people were arrested over the long weekend after falling victim to the Crime Reduction Unit’s bait program.

Two men and two women are potentially facing charges after their arrests.

In a news release, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the bait program has been expanded to include vehicles, bicycles and packages. Each of the four is accused of stealing one of those items.

Each vehicle, bicycle or package is equipped with a GPS device to track its movements after it has been taken.

“We want thieves to know that there are bait vehicles, bikes and packages on the streets of Kamloops,” said Shelkie. “Our hope is that, knowing they can be arrested, it will deter thieves from committing these crimes.”
