SALMON ARM— RCMP and the coroner are investigating a tragic death at a campground near Salmon Arm.

One woman died and a youth believed to be her daughter was taken to hospital after what appears to be carbon monoxide poisoning.

Police the cause appears to be a lit fuel source inside a tent.

They were camping at the private Sandy Point campground.

Police were called out Saturday about 10:00 AM. The woman was deceased when they arrived on scene, but a group of people was performing first aid on the girl. She was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

An RCMP news release says they found a cooking pot with wood ash in it that may have been used as a source of heat. That may have contributed to the excess of carbon monoxide.
