Electric vehicles will save you in the long haul: BC Hydro

KAMLOOPS — BC Hydro says new data shows switching from a gas-powered car to an electric vehicle could save thousands of dollars per year on the average commute.

The corporation says a new survey found the average commuter in the province travels roughly 20 kilometres each day in their car.

Making that trip in a Honda Civic would cost six times more than a Nissan Leaf, BC Hydro says.

At the equivalent of 25 cents per litre in gas, fueling an electric vehicle costs about 80 per cent less than fueling a gas powered vehicle, according to BC Hydro, adding that commuting 20 kilometres per day in a Nissan Leaf costs about two dollars per week.

Take a look below to see how much it would cost for round trips in the Kamloops area.
