Three suspects charged in connection to North Shore stabbing

KAMLOOPS — A 34-year-old Prince George man is expected to survive after being stabbed on the North Shore Wednesday (May 16). Three people have been charged in the incident.

Police responded to the incident at roughly 3:00 p.m. at the Northbridge Hotel on Tranquille Road.

Investigators found the man suffering from multiple wounds and bleeding profusely, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release. First aid was provided until the victim was taken to hospital, and although his injuries were serious the victim is expected to survive.

“There were several third party witnesses on this case. When combined with nearby surveillance video, police identified several suspects and their vehicle immediately,” says Kamloops RCMP plainclothes commander Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay.

Shelkie says within nine minutes of being dispatched to the incident, officers found the suspect’s 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche at a home on Linden Avenue. This residence is known to police.

Police arrested three men and one woman, and say the attack was targeted and in connection to the local drug trade.

“Police have executed several search warrants related to this investigation including one at the residence on Linden Avenue,” Shelkie says. “This is why there was a police presence at the residence overnight and into today.”

Jennifer Lindsay Manuel, 36, Devon Steven McConnell, 39, and Derek Lief Jensen, 33, all of Kamloops, have been charged with one count each of aggravated assault.

According to online court documents, Manuel has appeared in court several times over the past few years. In August 2017 she was found guilty and given a one-year sentence for wilfully resisting a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance and breach of probation.

She’s scheduled for a preliminary inquiry in August of this year for two charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Court documents show McConnell has been previously convicted of theft under $5,000 and breach of probation order.

All three are due in court this afternoon.

Evan Davis, 24, was also at the Linden Avenue home. While it’s not believed he was involved in the stabbing, he was arrested on outstanding warrants.

“In order to advance the investigation, RCMP have released surveillance footage of the suspects and the vehicle used in this crime. RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance with respect to any other video or observations that may have been made in this area,” Shelkie says. “If you saw these people or have cell phone / dash camera footage taken in the vicinity of Tranquille Road between 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm please contact RCMP.”
