KAMLOOPS — Police in Kamloops are asking for the public’s help in identifying a young person who appeared to have intentionally set a grass fire on the North Shore.

On Monday (May 13) just before 5:30 p.m., a passerby witnessed a teenager allegedly start a fire in the grass along the sidewalk on Singh Street, just south of Greenfield Avenue.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the teen ran away after he started the fire.

Kamloops Fire Rescue attended and immediately put the blaze out, Shelkie says, and it was contained to the grass along the sidewalk, which is near a fire hall.

The suspect is described as wearing a black baseball cap, black tank top, grey sweatpants and carrying a black backpack.

“Fire season has started,” Shelkie says. “Any spark, whether intentional or not, can cause extreme damage to property and endanger the lives of people and animals. Everyone should be extremely careful and report any suspicious activity.”

If you can identify the suspect call Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
