2018 South Kam boys’ provincial champs featured prominently in Kamloops Sports Council awards

KAMLOOPS — They were the first senior boys’ basketball team from South Kam to win the AAA provincial championship in 2018, and the team and its head coach were recognized on Saturday night for making history.

The 2018 Titans, which defeated Byrne Creek of Burnaby 74-66 in the AAA final last year, are the Team of the Year, while head coach Tim Unaegbu was recognized as Coach of the Year.

Maddie Gobeil won the Female Athlete of the Year, helping the Titans girls’ senior team win the championship in 2018 before starring in the school’s repeat this year. Fellow Titan Nick Sarai was nominated for Male Athlete of the Year, but ultimately lost out to gymnast Gavin Dodd.

Four individuals and one team were inducteed into the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday at the Coast Kamloops Hotel. CFJC Today‘s own Earl Seitz was among the inductees, as well as Paddy Harrington, Tony Parker, Ted Pierson, and the Kamloops Rugby Club.
