Kamloops businesses prepare for a busy Mother’s Day

KAMLOOPS — It’s one of the busiest days of the year for Kamloops Florist, as employees prepare dozens of orders for delivery before Mother’s Day.

“Mother’s Day is one of our three biggest (holidays),” Owner Kathy Underwood said, “so Mother’s Day, Christmas and Valentine’s, but it’s definitely been really busy this year. Our new location has really upped our exposure in Kamloops, so we’re getting a lot of new customers and a lot of orders, so it’s great.”

Around 70 orders will be delivered by the end of the day and another 90 to 100 on Saturday.

The flower shop has been so busy that it temporarily stopped taking any new orders.

“We’re still selling plants, we’ve got lots of stock of plants and chocolates, until we receive new flowers tomorrow,” Underwood said. “We just want to make sure we can commit to everything we’ve already taken.”

Flowers and a card are a classic choice, but some are choosing to go a different direction.

Shannon Harder at Runner’s Sole says many customers have entered the store looking for something for their active mothers.

“Most popular is a shoe that she’s had before and they just want to get the same style, same size,” Harder said. “We also have gift cards that we can give as well if you want to let mom come in for herself.”

For the mom who simply wants to spend time with her children, there’s Spring Fest happening Sunday.

“There’s going to be a photographer in front of the Kamloops Library, and she’s going to be taking ‘Mama and Me’ mini photo shoots with moms and their kids,” said Karla May Karcioglu, events, marketing and brand specialist for the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association.

In addition to plenty of gift shopping opportunities at the Spring Market, the KCBIA has planned a number of activities to honour mom.

No matter how you choose to honour your mother on Sunday, Mother’s Day is a chance to say ‘thank you’ for everything she’s done.
