RCMP look into strange encounter involving teenage girl in Upper Sahali

KAMLOOPS — RCMP investigators are looking for surveillance footage from some Upper Sahali residents as they try to solve a strange occurrence from a few weeks back.

According to spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, a 13-year-old girl was walking along Gleneagles Drive near Skagit Place on April 23 at around 8:30 p.m.

A man driving a pickup truck pulled up beside the girl, told her he was a friend of her mother’s and that her mother had been looking for her. The man offered the girl a ride home, but she declined. Because of the height of the man’s truck, the girl couldn’t get a good look at him, but noted he had a “gruff smokers voice.”

Shelkie says the incident is more than just a little strange.

“The driver claimed to be a friend of the girl’s mother and that her mother had sent him looking for her. So unless he had stopped and was talking to the wrong girl, then it is very suspicious,” said Shelkie.

When investigators went door-to-door after the report, they could not come across any surveillance video. They’re asking people who live in the areas of Gleneagles Drive and Springhill Drive who have surveillance cameras showing the street to contact them.

Vehicle description:

  • White, four-door Ford pickup truck
  • Lifted/jacked up
  • Very shiny chrome wheels
  • Shiny door handles, approximately five feet from the ground

Anyone with further information on the suspicious incident is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
