Mark Ferner won’t be back as Vernon Vipers coach in 2019-20 season

KAMLOOPS — Mark Ferner won’t be back as head coach of the B.C. Hockey Vernon Vipers next season.

The Vipers have chosen not to renew his contract and have hired former Vancouver Giants coach Jason McKee as their new head coach.

Ferner had two stints as Vipers coach — leading them to three straight RBC Cup appearances and two national championships between 2009 and 2011.

He went to the Everett Silvertips as head coach and later to the Kamloops Blazers as an assistant coach before returning to Vernon in 2014.
