WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The province is beginning its annual launch of burning restrictions in an effort to prevent wildfire starts.

According to a news release from the BC Wildfire Service, Category Two fires will be banned within the Cariboo Fire Centre, effective Friday, May 10 at 12:00 noon. Category Two fires typically consist of slash burning, and are larger than a half-metre by a half-metre in size. The ban also encompasses the use of sky lanterns, fireworks and exploding binary targets.

The service says the restriction will remain in place until September 27, 2019, or until otherwise advised. Campfires are still allowed in areas where permitted by municipal governments.
