Kamloops will get a taste of summer this week

KAMLOOPS — Some unseasonably warm temperature is heading our way this week.

Environment Canada forecaster Doug Lundquist says it’s not unusual for the city to get a warm period at the beginning of May.

“But with this ridge of high pressure building in, temperature is going to creep up and maybe by the end of the week we’ll be touching close to 30 C, definitely the high 20s and maybe even a day or so of 30 there,” he says. “That’s getting close to perhaps as much as 8 to 10 C above average.”

Lundquist says it could get close to record territory in the region, but records won’t be smashed across the board.

“It’s going to be dry, that entire period will be dry for the most part and it looks like the change back to cooler, perhaps more showery, weather won’t come until about this time next week,” he says. “It’s pretty typical around here for the latter part of May and June to get back into the showery weather and that’s because it’s the wettest time of the year.”
