CRUISE SHIP COLLISION

Two Holland America cruise ships rub in Vancouver’s harbour, no one hurt

VANCOUVER — A cruise ship docking at Canada Place in Vancouver Harbour today collided with another cruise ship.

A statement from Holland America, which owns both the Oosterdam and Nieuw Amsterdam ships involved, says the ships rubbed against each other while docking stern to stern.

No one was hurt and passengers were able to leave the ship as usual.

The statement says six stateroom verandas on the Nieuw Amsterdam were damaged and repairs are underway.

It says all required repairs are well above the water line and seaworthiness of both ships is not affected.

Holland America says the Oosterdam is set to sail overnight to Seattle, while the Nieuw Amsterdam will leave on a seven-day Alaska cruise and neither schedules are expected to be delayed.
