KAMLOOPS — The search is on for a 23-year-old man who was swept away in the North Thompson River this morning.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says around 6:30 this morning, three friends went swimming in the river near Chestnut Avenue.

“One of the men was swept away in the river, and his friends attempted to reach him and pull him back to shore, but were unsuccessful.”

Kamloops Fire and Rescue deployed their search boat, and Kamloops Search and Rescue have also been deployed with the RCMP drone along the riverbanks, but none of the teams have located the man yet.

The man is described as South Asian descent, and is wearing a maroon and green striped sweater and jeans.

“So we’re asking anybody, if you see this male, especially if you live near the river or are walking near the river today, to please contact Kamloops RCMP.”

Kamloops RCMP can be reached at 250-828-3000.
