Kamloops Food Bank looking to raise thousands with Empty Bowls auction

KAMLOOPS — Mixing art with Hollywood star-power, a number of celebrity-signed bowls are up for auction tomorrow as the Kamloops Food Bank hosts their 4th annual BCLC Empty Bowls Fundraiser.

Food Bank Board Chair Ashley Ricalton says months were spent gathering famous signatures on the bowls, and the sold-out event hopes to raise around $40,000 for the local food bank.

“We have Will Ferrell, we have Harrison Ford, Ozzy Osborne, many more as well. And we have some students from SD 73 that have made some of their own bowls in their art classes. So that’ll be a fun twist, at all the tables we will have the students bowls as well.”

Ricalton says the organization’s food supplies are boosted throughout the year from donations and food drives, and funds from the bowl auction will help out with the Food Bank’s operating costs.

“Really, we’re just grateful for anytime Kamloops steps up to help us. They did so last week at our Rotary Food Drive, and hopefully they’ll continue to do so tomorrow at the empty bowls.”

The event will be held tomorrow afternoon from the newly renovated Delta Hotels by Marriott in downtown Kamloops, starting at 3:00 p.m.
