RED DEER, AB — The WHL bantam draft has wrapped up in Red Deer, with the Kamloops Blazers taking nine players.

With their first pick, seventh overall, Kamloops selected defenceman Mats Lindgren of the Burnaby Winter Club. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Lindgren’s father of the same name is a former Vancouver Canuck.

With their second pick in the first round, the Blazers nabbed forward Connor Levis of Vancouver.

Overall, Kamloops took six forwards, two defencemen and one goaltender.

The first local area player to be drafted was early in the second round when forward Hayden Smith of Kamloops was taken by Saskatoon. Local Kolby Hay went to Edmonton in the third round, Carter Streek of Kamloops went to Portland in Round 4, and forward Maxwell Sanford of Williams Lake was taken in the sixth round by Kelowna.
