KAMLOOPS — A bobcat that has been recovering at the B.C. Wildlife Park is close to being released back to her original habitat.

The bobcat Gallagher was hit by a car in the Gallagher Lake area near Penticton in early March.

She arrived back in Kamloops on Saturday following a successful second surgery in the Lower Mainland to remove a steel plate that was holding her right hind leg together. Gallagher is on the mend and is just another month away from going back home.

“Probably four to six weeks. It really just depends on how fast she heals up from the second surgery,” said B.C. Wildlife Park animal care manager Tracy Reynolds. “She’s doing great, eating great, so we don’t expect anything to be delayed at all.”

The wildlife park will conduct another X-ray to ensure Gallagher’s right femur has fully healed before releasing her.
