KAMLOOPS —The Western Hockey League bantam draft is this Thursday.

After scoring with the selection of local product Logan Stankoven with the fifth pick overall a year ago, the Blazers have two first round picks this time.

Number seven and number 20, a pick acquired from Everett in the trade that sent Garrett Pilon and Ondrej Vala to the Silvertips in January of 2018.

That trade also brought Montana Onyebuchi and Orrin Centazzo to the Blazers.

Current Blazers taken in the bantam draft include Connor Zary, Brodi Stuart, Quinn Schmiemann, Dylan Garand, Josh Pillar and Logan Stankoven.

The Winnipeg Ice have the first overall pick and have a big decision to make —- do they take a gamble on Edmonton product Matthew Savoie, who is the hands down consensus best player eligible?

After being denied exceptional status as a 15 year old by Hockey Canada, Savoie has indicated his intention to join his brother older Carter who has committed to NCAA University of Denver.

Winnipeg recently acquired Carter’s rights in a trade with the Regina Pats.
