UPDATE: RCMP investigating cause of fatal cement truck crash near Sun Peaks

SUN PEAKS, B.C. — UPDATE – 3:41 p.m.: Police have now confirmed the driver of the truck was from Kamloops.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the man was the sole occupant of the vehicle that left the roadway and rolled down an embankment.

Shelkie says the cement truck was heading toward Sun Peaks when the crash happened.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

ORIGINAL: A cement truck driver has died after crashing into a ditch along Heffley-Louis Creek Road.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Capt. Darryl Cooper says crews were called to the area about two kilometres east of Lake Bay Road just after 8:30 a.m.

When crews arrived, Cooper said the cement truck was in the ditch and on its roof.

“We had to extricate the patient and bring him out onto the road,” Cooper says. “When they got him out there he was declared deceased on scene.”

There’s no further information on the man’s identity, and RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating.

No word at this point what caused the crash.
