Tomorrow is deadline for your taxes

KAMLOOPS — Just before midnight tomorrow is your final chance to file your 2018 taxes on time.

CRA spokesperson, Vick Virk, spoke about filing online as we head into crunch time.

“On the CRA website, if you go to Canada.ca/taxes we have a list of certified software that they can use.”

Virk also warned about scams, which typically picks up around tax time.

“You want to watch out for the language we’re using and how we actually communicate with tax payers,” he says. “The most important thing is to recognize that we won’t use aggressive language, we won’t threaten to arrest or deport you, and we never demand immediate payment using gift cards or Bitcoin.”

If you don’t file on-time, you can face fines of five per cent of the amount you owe plus an additional one per cent of the balance for each full month that your return is late.

If you file late, then you’re going to have to pay the penalty.

If you or your spouse are self-employed, you have until June 17 to file, but still must file any outstanding payments by April 30.
