Light spring snowfall for Kamloops in higher elevations

KAMLOOPS — Some of the higher areas in Kamloops and the Interior woke up to a light dusting of snow this morning.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Mike Gismondi says the later season snowfall was not totally unusual for this time of year.

“A system is passing through the Interior today. We’ve got some showers mixed with flurries in higher elevations, kind of tapering off this morning,” He explains, “Just a chance of showers this afternoon, and another round of showers coming through tonight.”

As for the Coquihalla, Gismondi says a few centimetres of snow is expected tonight, but that should melt with warmer weather tomorrow.

“Over the highway passes- Helmer Lake and the Coquihalla Summit, they’ve had somewhere between 2-4 centimetres, and it looks like it is still snowing there a little bit, but it should be tapering off throughout the day.”
