KAMLOOPS — Police in Kamloops are looking for information after a suspicious incident in the Whispering Pine area.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Mat Van Laer says in a news release that at roughly 7:15 a.m. this morning (April 26), a child was waiting for the school bus when a black four-door car with chrome trim stopped in front of him.

The driver allegedly called out to the child from inside his vehicle, asking what time school started and if he wanted to get in.

Van Laer says the child went home, and the vehicle left southbound on Westsyde Road toward Kamloops.

The child told his bus driver what happened, who later made checks at all his other stops on the way to school, and no other child had seen or experienced anything similar, Van Laer says.

The driver was described as being an older, dark-skinned man, with a clean-shaven face, and was wearing a green toque with a black jacket.

“At this point, we have no reasons to believe that this was a targeted incident,” Van Laer says. “We are simply glad that both the child and the bus driver did the right thing, and we continue to encourage the public to report anything they find suspicious or unusual.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Tk’emlups RCMP at (250) 314-1800 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
