After tragic passing of its dentist, Mustard Seed looks to the community for help

KAMLOOPS — The Mustard Seed Community Outreach Centre has launched a campaign to encourage dentists around the Kamloops community to volunteer some of their time to the centre.

Called ‘Give a Day to Change a Life’, the campaign was started after the sudden passing of Dentist Bruce Tucker, which was not only a huge loss to the staff but also left a job vacancy with hundreds of clients.

The Mustard Seed is now critically understaffed, forcing the wait staff to push back wait times to the summer.

Dental receptionist Lisa Allarie expressed how dire the situation was and how important it is for outside dentists to volunteer some of their time.

“It would certainly shorten our patient wait times right now. Our wait times are [to the] end of July to get an appointment with us because we are only running one day of general practice dentistry right now.”

The Mustard Seed was a hub for low-to-no income families. Many of the patrons simply cannot afford to receive private care.

And until the Mustard Seed can get another full-time dentist, they are calling on local dentists to help. Whether it is just for an hour or for a full day, the organization says just helping one patient can change a life.
