KAMLOOPS — Details around the 21st annual Kamloops Wine Festival were revealed today ahead of next month’s kick off.

Fundraising Events Coordinator Judy Basso says a variety of events will be held throughout Kamloops starting May 24 — including tastings, a paint night, and wine and food pairing classes.

The events will wrap up June 1 with the Grand Wine Tasting Party at the Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre, featuring more than 50 exhibitors.

Basso says the yearly festivities have certainly evolved with the establishment of local wineries.

“I used to say, I wish I had wineries I could work with, and my wish has come true,” she laughs. “We’ve got some fantastic wineries in Kamloops, and they are being very supportive and we’re encouraging people to go out and go to the wineries during the wine festival.”

The festival will also host a Wine Bluff event with Western Canada Theatre, where Artistic Director James MacDonald says everyday wine lovers can test just how well they know their grapes.

“We’re encouraging people to come down as teams this year. You can buy a table of six, people compete as a team and what you’re doing is you’re matching your wine tasting expertise against some local wine experts.”

The festival, which raises funds for the Kamloops Art Gallery, runs from May 24 to June 1, and more information on the events can be found online here.
