KAMLOOPS — A heavy police presence at Royal Inland Hospital Wednesday evening was the result of multiple paramedics being assaulted.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Ed Preto says in a news release that police responded just before 7:30 p.m. to a report of an intoxicated 54-year-old man who was assaulting three B.C. Ambulance paramedics at RIH.

Preto says ambulance had taken the man from a location on the North Shore to hospital for medical treatment.

At the hospital, the man became angry with the paramedics and began to kick and punch them, Preto says.

Security was able to restrain the man until police arrived. Preto says the man was released from hospital and is in police custody.
