THE LION KING TRAILER DROPS: Disney has released the first full trailer for Jon Favreau’s live action remake of the 1994 animated classic The Lion King. “Life’s not fair, is it, my little friend?,” says the villain Scar, voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor. “While some are born to feast, others spend their life in the dark, begging for scraps.” The cast also includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonc Knowles-Carter as Nala and James Earl Jones as Mufasa. The Lion King will land in theaters on July 19.

JIM JARMUSCH’S THE DEAD DON’T DIE TO KICK OFF CANNES: The Cannes Film Festival will open on May 14th with zombie flick The Dead Don’t Die,starring Bill Murray, Chloe Sevigny, Adam Driver and Tilda Swinton. Jim Jarmusch directed the comedy-horror film, which will be released in the U.S. on June 14^th.

DISCOVERY CONFIRMS GAINES PROJECT TO GO LIVE IN 2020: Discovery and Magnolia, home of the lifestyle brand led by Chip and Joanna Gaines, have confirmed a launch date for their joint venture in summer of 2020. The thus-far publicly unnamed initiative will include a TV network and a TV Everywhere app. A subscription streaming service is planned. “Chip and Joanna Gaines have become trusted, household names since the debut of Fixer Upper and through this joint venture, Discovery is proud to extend our relationship with them,” Discovery CEO David Zaslav said. “They’ve got authenticity and relatability, that special something that is so difficult in our business to find. People love them, their taste, their businesses – they’ve built an ecosystem that aligns perfectly with our vision at Discovery for fueling people’s passions.”

ANIMAL PLANET GOES BEHIND THE SCENES IN NEW SHOW: Animal Planet will take viewers behind the scenes at the San Diego Zoo in a greenlit series titled (for now) The Zoo: San Diego. Animal Planet‘s The Zoo‘s producers will run the upcoming series, which aims to look at what happens inside San Diego Zoo Global. Two parks, the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, plus the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research, are under its umbrella. Viewers will be able to see 700 species and 6,500 animals.
