KAMLOOPS — Relocation of records from the Land Title and Survey Authority’s Kamloops office has begun.

Lindsay Bealle, assistant deputy registrar with the office, says documents including original copies started being moved in January.

“They’ve either taken duplicates or originals,” she says. “They’ve left us with one of the versions.”

The relocation of records from the LTSA office has been a point of contention with local MLAs Todd Stone and Peter Milobar, who say plans to move permanent land title records from Kamloops to Victoria were made without consulting local First Nations.

Both Stone and Milobar have pushed for original copies to be kept at the Kamloops LTSA office, and duplicates to be held in Victoria.

Documents are being packed up today (April 9) at the LTSA office, and Bealle says at least one copy of each document will remain on site until the end of the year.

Kamloops council passed a motion calling on LTSA for a moratorium on moving the records until council can meet with LTSA or Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Doug Donaldson.
